Erawan Falls – Thailand

On my recent trip to Thailand I discovered these gorgeous falls in the Kanchanaburi district, 2 hours drive northwest from Bangkok.

Erawan Falls are part of the Erawan National Park and cascading downhill over 7 levels. Many of the levels have pools where you can swim in, so make sure you take your swimmers and a towel and plenty of time. The falls are getting quite busy and kids and adults alike enjoying a cooling off in the refreshing pools. The path is paved till level 4 and then turns more into a nature track. Good shoes are recommended and a base level of fitness to reach the top level which is roughly 1.5km away from the entrance.

The walk is just beautiful and each level is reflecting a level of serenity. The access to the upper levels is restricted in the afternoon to assure people have time to decent before the park is closing at 5PM.

The entrance fee for farangs (foreigners as the Thai call them) is 200 Baht each (less than $7 AUD). Certainly doesn’t break the bank and well worth it. I believe there was also a 30 Baht vehicle fee.

You will have to pay a 20 Baht deposit if you are taking a drink bottle beyond the 3rd level (recommended) to assure the bottle is been brought back and not left as rubbish on the upper levels. The deposit is returned upon showing them the bottle which carries your name. I really welcomed this initiative.

I don’t have a decent image of level 7 I’m happy with as it was really busy at that time I got there. But people had a great time refreshing in the pools and standing under the falls.

These falls are truly spectacular. I enjoyed them that much that I went back twice, partly because I only got there in the afternoon on my first visit.

Next time I take you to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and Kanchanaburi.

Till then….

Your Rene
