NSW South Coast – Jervis Bay
6 weeks ago I left for a road trip following the Australian coast line down south till close to Adelaide and coming back through the outback. We drove over 4,000km in 2 weeks in a motorhome and wow, what a trip! It was truly breathtaking seeing so many beautiful places and I will write about the various destinations we have been to in multiple posts.
The first stop was the beautiful Jervis Bay. I have heard a lot about it but have never been here before. The weather started first out to be average but the light, scattered rain the next morning didn’t take the beauty away. We’ve stayed in Huskisson, just a 2 mins stroll to the beach. I’ve started out when it was still dark and tried to orientate myself on what is around me (always the exciting part for me). The bay was calm and quickly I found my first spot waiting for the sun to rise. The rocks were very slippery and the beaches seem to be quite flat descending into the water.
Check out this beauty. I found the tyre in the water and this added a nice perspective to my foreground.
We spend the day doing the touristy thing and joined a whale watching cruise. It was great spending the day on the water and watch a humpback whale with her young calf migrating north. Unfortunately not much was to see since we have to keep a certain distance to the whales. Nevertheless it was a great experience. My son and I ended the day down at the beach watching the sun set and getting our feet wet.
The next morning I headed out before leaving Jervis Bay and moving onto the next spot but this time I’ve used my brand new rockfishing boots. How could I have survived without those. Just awesome. No more slipping on the rocks. Just fabulous. I was right on the edge of the rocks when suddenly a pot of dolphins appeared 10-15 meters away. I just couldn’t believe my eyes. It was still very early and the water was calm. Just magic watching those guys while the sun was getting ready to peak through the clouds.
Jervis Bay certainly did not disappoint and I have the feeling that I will be back there soon again! :)
I will be soon back with my next location, Eden in New South Wales.
Cheers Rene :)
